Happenings at WZU

The 2020 World Young Scientist (Wenzhou) Summit-International Symposium on Water Ecology and Environmental Health was successfully held

As an important part of the 2020 World Young Scientist (Wenzhou) Summit, the International Symposium on Water Ecology and Environmental Health was successfully held by the College of Life and Environmental Sciences, Wenzhou University from October 16th to 17th, 2020. The Symposium focused on new methods and new theories in the fields of cyanobacteria bloom treatment, decentralized domestic sewage treatment, green energy-saving buildings, river sewage engineering treatment, cyanobacteria resource utilization, and water microbial ecology. A total of more than 100 experts attended the event to conduct in-depth discussions on issues in the field of water ecological environment. Among them 7 are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. There were nearly 200 guests from well-known universities, research institutes, and enterprises from China, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, and representatives of teachers and students from universities in Wenzhou.

Professor Zhao Min, President of Wenzhou University, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the symposium, with a particular focus on the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Water Pollution Ecological Treatment Technology approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. Yan Xiufeng, Dean of the College of Life and Environmental Sciences gave a speech on the opening ceremony of Wenzhou University-Kyoto University International Water Resources and Aquatic Ecology Research Center. He said that the ecology is the important field of research and postgraduate training in the university, and the water ecological environment research team led by Professor Min Zhao is the leading force for achieving new progress in related fields.

After the unveiling ceremony, the symposium entered the session of keynote speech. Hou Li'an, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force Engineering University, gave a keynote speech titled "The Application Prospects of Satellite Internet of Things in Improving China’s Water Environment Quality". Professor Baotoku Kawagoe of Kumamoto University, Japan, and Professor Li Jianbing of Northern British Columbia University, Canada respectively delivered speeches about "Application of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox) to nitrogen removal" and "Investigation of groundwater-surface water interaction in the riparian zone under the effects of climate and land use changes". Professor Pan Bingcai of Nanjing University presented a report titled "Challenges and Explorations in the Practical Process of Nano Water Treatment Technology". Professor Li Renhui made a keynote speech on "Cyanobacterial blooms in China: diversity, toxicity and expansion" on behalf of Wenzhou University. 

International Symposium on Water Ecology and Environmental Health is an important part of the 2020 World Young Scientist (Wenzhou) Summit, and also an important event for Wenzhou University to practice its mission of contributing to the ecological conservation.
